Technicality kills Oakview Subdivision AGAIN

During debate February 16 at the Board of Mayor & Aldermen meeting, Alderman Amy Wurth showed that she knows how to read the City Codes better than the rest of the Aldermen and even the members of the Planning Commission.   • HERITAGE MIDDLE SCHOOL -On Tuesday, March 2, 2010, 6:30 p.m. we will host our 3rd Annual Hoop 'n Holler Basketball Game. This is a staff vs the HMS Varsity Boys and Girls Basketball teams. Teachers and Staff also have their own Cheerleaders! The HMS Choir, Band, Dance Team and Cheerleaders will also perform. This is a family friendly event. Please come support your school. Admission is $5 adults and $3 for children (children 5 and under get in free).
  • The Columbia Area Beekeepers Association is holding a free beekeeping workshop from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27 at the University of Tennessee’s Agricultural Research Center on Highway 31 in Spring Hill. The workshop is aimed at anyone who would like to learn more about beekeeping and how to get started in the hobby. Discussion subjects will include characteristics of the bee colony and the life cycle of the bees, beekeeping equipment, how to maintain and work your beehives and how to harvest honey. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the conference room at the back of the farm.
  • Redbud, Sweet Pecan and White Pine seedlings will be given away on Saturday, March 13 at the Baker Building in Maury County Park. The seedlings will be distributed from 8-10 a.m. with a limit of one bundle per person. Trees are helpful in that they moderate temperature extremes, retard wind speed, reduce vehicular and industrial noise, produce oxygen and filter air pollution. The sponsors for this year’s event are: Doug Boehms, Burchell Properties, Columbia Oil, Community First Bank and Trust, First Farmers and Merchants Bank, General Homes of Columbia, Manor Hall Farms, Maury County Parks and Recreation, Maury County Soil Conservation District, Maury Regional Medical Center, TriGreen Equipment and Roger Witherow and Associates.
  • The Spring Hill Lions Club will be holding registration for the summer T-Ball/Softball leagues on March 27 and April 3 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Registration will be held at the Pete Boyd Recreational Ball Park located on Beechcroft Road beside Evans Park. Over 500 children participated last year in the following leagues (Age as of August 1st of this year): Lollipop - Ages 3-4 T-Ball - Ages 5-6 Coach Pitch Softball - Ages 7-9 Coach Pitch Softball - Ages 10-12 Slow Pitch Softball - Ages 13-15 Cost is $20 per child, which covers registration and a trophy.
