  • FRANKLIN ON FOOT LAUNCHES DOWNTOWN FOOD TOUR Taste Signature Dishes at Six Downtown Franklin Restaurants Starting This Saturday FRANKLIN, Tenn.—Franklin On Foot owner Margie Thessin just can’t keep still. After launching Franklin Bike Tours & Rentals a little more than a month ago, the entrepreneur will lead the company’s inaugural Southern-style Food Tour this Saturday. Franklin on Foot will begin offering the new option on the third Saturday of each month, from 2-5 p.m., for groups of six to 20 people. Participants will explore Southern staples at six downtown restaurants, and learn a bit of background behind each tasting. The five-block walking tour also comes with Franklin history along the way. “You’re going to leave with an extra dose of knowledge and a belly full of good food,” Thessin said. “This will be a great opportunity for both tourists and locals looking to expand their Franklin experience.” Chapman’s Pie Wagon II, Franklin Mercantile Deli, Merridee’s Breadbasket, Puckett’s Grocery & Restaurant, Papa Boudreaux’s Cajun Café and 55 South are slated to offer their respective specialty dishes on the tour. Guests will sample everything from BBQ sliders and fried green tomatoes to oysters and gazpacho soup. Thessin has worked with each eatery on a dish that reflects both the restaurant’s taste and the tour’s bent. She said that it will not be a progressive dinner, and that the menu will not be the same each Saturday. “We may taste spicy gumbo after sampling a slice of sweet chess pie,” Thessin said. “Basically, this is a moveable feast.” Thessin’s decision to add the three-hour walking food tour was inspired by its success in other cities similar to Franklin. This is the town’s first food tour. “With the number of locally owned restaurants we have in downtown, there is an incredible market for this kind of offering,” she said. Franklin On Foot will lead the food tour on additional days, but reservations must be made a week in advance and there must be a minimum of six people on each tour. Reservations are contingent on the restaurants’ availability. The Southern-style food tour is $45. Alcohol is not included, but will be available for purchase at most participating locations. Each Saturday tour is from 2-5 p.m. To schedule reservations for this Saturday or future tours, call 615-400-3808. For more information, visit the Franklin on Foot website at www.franklinonfoot.com.
