The Pregnancy Center of Columbia recently hired a new Executive Director, Victoria Laktash. Ms. Laktash was living in Arizona at the time where daily she asked her husband, George, “When are we going to move to Spring Hill? I want to go home!” Victoria has roots in Middle Tennessee and once lived in Spring Hill.
While agreeing to be the guest speaker of the Annual Fall Fundraising Banquet for the Pregnancy Center in Columbia, Victoria discovered that the center was searching for a new Executive Director. “I knew Columbia was just south of Spring Hill,” Victoria said. “I felt like God was answering my prayer to return!” She applied for the job and this past April, with the support of her husband, accepted the board’s offer with a starting date of June 14, 2011. “I had jokingly told George I was moving back and hoped he would come with me! All joking aside, I have an incredibly supportive husband, who encouraged me every step of the way.” George and Victoria now live in Spring Hill.
Having studied the demographics and continued future growth in the area, Victoria set about presenting the need for a satellite center in Spring Hill to her Board of Directors. The Board recognizes the need and following a short speaking tour, Victoria will begin her search for a location to house the center and begin serving the people of Spring Hill, Franklin and the surrounding communities. Victoria insists, “I have full confidence that God will guide me in my search.”
Services of the pregnancy center include prevention education, (which is exclusive to abstinence until marriage education), free pregnancy tests, ultrasound, information on abortion alternatives, referral to community resources, parenting programs, post-abortion counseling, and “Baby and Me” pre-natal classes. The center is funded by private, church and corporate contributions.
Ms. Laktash states, “Our services are not limited to teenagers, women and their children, but to men also. We can’t forget that men experience stress from pregnancy or from an abortion they may have participated in. We’re here to help them too. Among other things, we will need support from community leaders, pastors and the citizens of Spring Hill to make this center a reality. On behalf of the board, staff and myself, I would greatly appreciate any help you would like to contribute. We will need a building, financial resources, church and business support and many volunteers to make this happen. I’m confident that together we can and will make this happen. Please feel free to contact me by calling the center at 931-381-4024. I would love to hear from you!”
Ms. Laktash is a highly motivated individual with an apparent endless supply of energy. She and the Pregnancy Center will become a valuable part of the Spring Hill Community. If you would like to invite her to speak at your civic organizations, church or company, you can reach Victoria at the center or her email Victoria@pregnancycentercolumbia.org .
