Local Author published in New Anthology gives reading

“It’s a thrill to be selected for publication in an anthology that includes both famous and up and coming writers,” says Mary Ann Weakley of Spring Hill.

Weakley, a new writer, is one of 31 authors represented in Gathering: Writers of Williamson County, a first anthology from The Council for the Written Word, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.

Weakley will share her story in a reading on Saturday, August 29th at 2 p.m. in the event room of Spring Hill Library. Joining Weakley is Olive Mayger, another of the anthology authors.

The celebration launch of the book was held on August 15th at Otey Hall of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Franklin. Over one hundred people attended the signing event. Some of the recognizable authors included in the book are Robert Hicks, Tom T. Hall, Madison Smartt Bell, and Paula Wall. The book was published by CPO Publishing, a Roger Waynick Book Group, Franklin.

Weakley’s contribution to the anthology is a story of her early days in an Illinois convent where she spent many years. Her story, “Face of a Nun”, is an excerpt of a full memoir, still in progress, about those years.

Weakley, who is also a member of The Living Writers’ Collective, a local writers group, says, “The support from my writing groups allowed me to develop my writing craft. Novice writers often need encouragement from other writers to sustain them.”

Following the readings, Weakley and Mayger will hold a Q and A session for those interested in the steps to being published in an anthology. The authors will be available for signing and refreshments will be served. The public is invited.
