Royalty to visit Spring Hill

alt text

At a time when Spring Hill is experiencing economic transition, a planned visit may be just what the City needs. “The King and Queen of Emure Kingdom in Nigeria, will be spending the day in Spring Hill on October 14,” according to a recent statement from Spring Hill Mayor Michael Dinwiddie. Emure Kingdom is a prominent community of the Yoruba tribe and is located in the southwestern Nigerian state of Ekiti.

King Emmanuel Adebayo was selected by tribal chiefs to be their king. He was crowned February 2, 2008. King Adebayo’s selection was the result of his reputation as a national figure and authority on security in Nigeria. As National Chief of Police, he won numerous awards for his contributions to law enforcement, economic development, education, and environmental improvement. Mayor Dinwiddie said, “Spring Hill has been presented with a tremendous opportunity to help another region of the world advance and it is my privilege to announce that, during my tenure as Mayor, Spring Hill will partner with this region of Nigeria as a sister city so that we can share ideas and opportunities with each other in a humanitarian gesture of assistance and friendship.”

There will be a reception on October 14th at the Spring Hill Library at 10AM followed by another reception at the UAW banquet hall from 11AM – 1PM. The public is encouraged to come to greet King Emmanuel and Queen Mary at one of these events. There will also be a benefit concert at TPAC on the evening of Oct 9th and you are welcome to attend. Details on this concert can be found at www.givebacktn.org.
