Christmas is a time that transforms. Although it has become a commercial “holiday” of tinsel, shopping, trees and presents, for those who are believers, it is a time where the birth of Christ is given a more visible focus in songs and celebrations by the world. Each year the retail industry starts the “holiday” season earlier, and for some the true focus of what Christmas is gets lost in the commercialism.
I went looking for Christmas this year in a book call The Case for Christmas. This is an interesting perspective of a journalist and former atheist who interviews experts on archaeology, the Bible and Prophesy to search out the identity of the child in the manger. Being a former journalist, he asks the tough, probing questions needed to address this sensitive issue with logic, and solid answers that delude the skepticism this subject encounters
.If you are someone who is open to considering spiritual things at this time of year, (or any time), you will find this book from Lee Strobel an interesting perspective. You may also enjoy reading his other books-Cross Examinations, The Unexpected Adventure, Exploring the DaVinci Code or The Case for Faith.
The Case for Christmas states some well-reasoned arguments that support the premise about the Christmas story as told in the Bible. Did it really happen-or is it just a hoax? I found this book gave interesting information to support something I had always believed to be true, yet had not looked into with great detail. If you’re skeptical, but willing to hear some explanations that suggest the story of Jesus in the Gospels may actually be true, then I would encourage you to read this book. This book presents logic, proof and facts to convince and support theory and to give you some solid answers.
Personally, the date Christmas is celebrated could be anytime of the year for me, and knowing all the facts and details is useful and informative. I still think believing is the key. But what I like about Christmas is, that once a year, amid all the decorations, commercialism and stress, the world stops to recognize, sometimes without acknowledging that it is doing so, that the birth of a tiny baby changed the world….and still does.
