As you turn off Buckner Lane onto Glessner Dr. into Glennmont subdivision, you are impressed by the new brick homes. The beautiful dark red brick home at 1010 is built slightly below the street level and is quite impressive. Just three doors down is the home of Spring Hill’s former Mayor. Glennmont contains some beautiful and expensive homes. However, the house at 1010 has been occupied by a renter. Most likely the person paying the rent did not reside at the residence. At about 9:30 a.m., February 19th, Spring Hill Codes Inspectors joined Williamson County Animal Control in an inspection of the home at 1010 Glessner Drive, according to Director of Codes, Beau Herring. They were acting on a tip from a woman who had visited the home after reading an ad on the internet for the sale of Dachshund puppies.
When no one responded to the door bell or knocking, the owner of the house who accompanied the inspectors, agreed to unlock the door and authorized entrance. As soon as the door opened, the inspectors knew the lady had not misled them. They were greeted by the strong odor of canine feces and urine. Seven hours after the inspection, Herring said, “It was so strong, I still have the smell in my nose.”
After the door was opened and the inspectors identified themselves, a man walked down the inside stairway and gave permission for entry and inspection. The inspectors found 16 dogs and several parrot type birds. Only the birds were restrained in cages. One of the dogs was a Great Pyrennes. There were a few mixed breed dogs, but most of the dogs were Dachshunds. The floors were covered with old and new dog feces and urine, both downstairs and upstairs. Herring indicated that the hardwood floors, carpets, and sub-flooring will probably have to be removed and replaced before the home can be occupied again.
There were four citations issued dealing with failure to keep the home clean, noise, creating a nuisance, and operating a business without a license. All of the animals were confiscated by Williamson County Animal Control who removed them form the home.
Like the old saying, “You can’t judge a book by its cover,” neither can you judge a house by the outside appearance.
