Codes Enforcement Officer, Stephen Warf, advises that Spring Hill sign code, regulating the placement of political campaign signs will now be strictly enforced. This regulation has been ignored in the past. Some citizens considered the number of signs posted in the past to be littering. When the signs can be put out is also covered in the zoning ordinance. That too, will be enforced in the future, according to Warf.
Article IV, Section 10.3(7) of the City Zoning Code states, “Signs pertaining to political campaigns, are subject to the following: Such signs shall not exceed sixteen (16) square feet (Class D) per sign. One (1) candidate cannot have more than six (6) signs or a total of ninety-six (96) square feet. The candidate will be allowed to have an unlimited number of signs at his [or her] personal residence, unless it is prohibited by his [or her] subdivision restrictions, and will also be allowed in his [or her] supporters’ yards. Such signs may be allowed on election day and thirty (30) days prior to the election, and must be removed within twenty-four (24) hours after the polls close.”
Warf said that the 30 day regulation applies to the start of early voting. Early voting for the upcoming primary election in August, will start July 18. Signs may be put out starting June 18. Any signs posted prior to June 18 are subject to removal by the Codes officials. “The Mayor and Aldermen want strict enforcement of the Code,” said Warf.
With strict enforcement of the Political Sign regulation, residents should expect no more than 32 signs along streets and road right of ways in the City. Of course there is no limit on the number of signs that can be placed in the yards of residents. You can expect to see campaign signs for Williamson County Sheriff, Judge Seats, State House, Congress, and possibly U. S. Senate starting June 18. The general election in November will also bring out another surge of Red, White, and Blue signs.
